Wiki

  • What is a wiki?

A collaborative website whose content can be edited by anyone.

[From Hawaiian wikiwiki, to hurry, swift.]

  • Can I really change any page?

Yes you can.  The idea is that your edits will make the page better of course!  You must be logged in to make changes.

  • May I create my own wiki pages?

Yes.

  • Can I create private pages that only I can see?

Yes. If you create a page in your User namespace, it is private.  For example, if your username is bob, User:bob:todo  would be private and only you can read it.   Note however, that your user object -- e.g., User:bob, is public.

  • How do I edit a discussion comment I posted previously?

You may only edit your comment if it is the last one in the thread.  However, you may withdraw an older posting.

  • Can I delete a group or a page?

Currently there is no way for users to delete individual pages or groups.  This functionallity is under consideration.  If you need to remove a page or group from the system, please email us at help@shopwiki.com and we will perform the removal for you.

Quotas

  • How much stuff can I put up here?  Wiki articles?  Uploads?

There are currently no hard limits but we reserve the right to decide at any time how much content is too much content.  In the public portions of the site, if the content is of general use to the Internet community, generally, the more (quality) content the better.  However, this site should not be used purely as a mirror site, the intent is the posting of original content.

In private groups, you may certainly create hundreds of wiki articles in a group (they are mostly text so not a heavy load on the system).  In terms of uploads, 100 megabytes of upload content in a group would be considered reasonable in many circumstances.

General

  • Why is this site here?  How do you make money?

We are working on a sister project, ShopWiki, which involves wiki technology.  LittleWiki is effectively a beta test of the wiki technology for that system.  One day we might have some ads on this site to support it.  We will, however, strive to keep advertising to a minimum.

  • How does the wiki manage multiple simultaneous logins (and edits) under the same account?

Currently there are no restrictions regarding simultaneous logins, so you can be logged into the system with the same user account on two different machines.  However, edits to the same article from the same user account will not be version checked and, therefore, it is possible for the simultaneous logins to overwrite each other if editing the exact same article.  We recommend individual logins for proper article history tracking and version control.

Not at this time.
